You’re at the table, moving with intention, trying to soften the body – but your client remains tense, holding, not letting go.
In this video I go through how we as Lomi Lomi Practitioners handle this.
It can feel frustrating.
But in Lomi Lomi, we understand something deeper:
They’re not resisting you.
Their body is simply in protection.
Many people have spent so long in stress that they no longer remember what it feels like to truly relax. Their nervous system is still in fight or flight, even in a place meant for healing.
So we don’t force relaxation.
We invite it.
Begin with Your Breath
First, come back to yourself.
Take a deep, cleansing breath.
Your energy matters.
Then gently invite your client to breathe with you—creating a shared space of presence and Aloha.
Guide the Body Through Contraction
Instead of asking the body to relax, ask it to engage.
Invite your client to gently contract the area you’re working on – press into your hand, activate the muscle.
Then allow the release to follow.
Because the body naturally moves from:
Contraction → Relaxation
This is how we work with the body, not against it.
Speak to the Body with Aloha
In Lomi Lomi, words carry mana.
Rather than saying, “this is tight,” or “just relax,” speak with intention:
“This area is ready to release.”
“It’s safe to let go.”
You are not only touching the body – you are communicating with it.
The Way of the Practitioner
When a client cannot relax, we don’t become frustrated.
We soften.
We meet them where they are.
We guide, rather than force.
This is the essence of Lomi Lomi –
working in harmony with the body, with presence, with Aloha.
